Sprectro shade

Porcelain crowns are developed in a prosthetic laboratory. The work on the crowns consists of two main stages: giving them proper shape and color. The optimum effect is achieved when the new crown cannot be told from the other, neighboring teeth.

Rendering the full range of tooth colors on a porcelain crown is not an easy job. It requires high sense and precision. Each tooth is different and its color changes in time. Using the ‘more or less’ method, a dentist is only able to determine the so-called color group of a tooth (whether it is yellow, more or less grey, etc.)

We achieve perfect effects in the laboratory of our clinic due to the fact that we select the color of new teeth for each patient with a special, computer-based device called Spectro Shade. It is used for scanning a patient’s teeth and creating the so-called color map of each tooth. The Spectro Shade system lets us obtain highly detailed analysis of three main components, due to which we perceive the color as:

  • brightness
  • saturation
  • tone

The map created on the basis of such analysis ensures perfect rendering of the natural tooth color on each part of surface of the new crown. The task of the laboratory technician is to follow the guidelines provided by this map. In addition, having the above data available on a computer, we are able to carry out smile analyses, to determine the appearance of a tooth in daylight, in halogen light, or even its behavior in disco lighting.
